About

CHILD and YOUTH

I've worked with kids on and off in various roles since I was 20 years old and as a psychotherapist since 2007. I'm very qualified to deal with even their most challenging mental health concerns.

With children from 6-12, I expect lots of parental involvement (because it is not that effective otherwise).

Youth 12-20 do better with more privacy and probably do better virtually (as I learned during Covid). As well, statistics will tell you that the prevalence of serious mental health concerns among teenagers is way up. As a rule, it's usually worse than you think. So when in doubt, get some help.

ADULTS

I currently see adults in Individual Therapy with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, relationships, education and career planning.

Typically, I work together with a person over the first few sessions to come up with a plan to tackle the agreed upon problem. It is important to have a plan and a structure to get things done.

It is also important to have time for support and to deal with things that come up.

Once a plan is in place, I help individuals find their way through a process mostly influenced by CBT and/or ACT (effective evidenced- based therapies).

I am motivated to not only help people feel better but to find ways to help them consistently live more fulfilling lives.

ABOUT PSYCHOTHERAPY

Psychotherapy is like counselling, however, the former tends to look more deeply, addressing the underlying causes of a person’s problems as well as how to solve them.

While psychotherapy is not "rocket science", it is a science. Evidenced-based research has been conducted in the field for many decades. As a result, there are "tried and true" methods for overcoming most mental health concerns.

Besides knowing what these skills and methods are, a psychotherapist should have the ability to help an individual implement and assimilate these skills through the process of talk therapy.

In that way, it is important to seriously consider a practitioner's experience in treating your specific concern. Furthermore, clients who are participants in psychotherapy  should understand that it is important to follow and stick with the protocols to have success in therapy.

Services and Cost

There is a big range of concerns that people bring to therapy.

On the one end of the spectrum, I see people who want to come in once and talk through a specific concern (consultation).

On the other end, I have referrals from physicians for individuals with complex mental health concerns that require specific, evidenced- based protocols to resolve the problem.

Most people are somewhere in the middle. Whatever your circumstance, I am qualified and willing to help you feel better.

We will talk together and work out a plan for get you back on track, to help you feel better or to meet whatever goal you think is best.

And, if you are "somewhere in the middle", you can expect 4-8 sessions to get back on track.

If you want ongoing support or want to come and go, that can work as well.

The important thing is to get some help. Whether it's with me or someone else, go ahead and get started.
